      Tip Reasoning

Following Bury’s ejection from the Football League, the League One fixture list has had to be re-jigged and that has resulted in a few sides having to make alternative arrangements. This Tuesday sees a Portsmouth side take to the field for just the sixth time in League One, a competition where many of their competitors have played three times more.

For all that Portsmouth have not been playing League One football much so far this season, their form at the early stages of the campaign suggests it is not exactly a bad thing. The hosts have claimed just five points from their five matches so far and although they were able to defeat Norwich City’s Under 23 side in the Checkatrade Trophy at the weekend, the fact that they have conceded six times in their last three league matches will be a cause for concern.

After finishing 10 points off the play-off pace in League One last season, hosts Burton Albion are hoping to put together more of a top 6 push this time around. On paper, The Brewers have enough quality to challenge towards the upper end of the division and they come into Tuesday’s game in good shape.

Indeed, Burton have recovered well from an opening day defeat to Ipswich and are now an impressive six matches unbeaten across all competitions, of which they’ve won four. As far as league action goes, the side have 11 points from their opening seven games, which ranks as a decent enough start that would be looking even healthier if they could secure victory on Tuesday.

With both sides keen to earn the three points to improve their start to the season, we think that they will both approach the match in a positive mindset. The hosts form in the league has left a lot to be desired and although they rank highly in the least goals conceded column, that is largely thanks to the fact that they have not had much action in the league.

The head to head record shows that four of the six meetings between these two sides has finished with both teams scoring and it is something we think will happen once again in this fixture. In terms of the correct score, we cannot split these two teams so we are backing a 1-1 stalemate.
