Portugal and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

UEFA Nations League champions Portugal have scored 15 goals across their last five matches and look justified favourites to beat a Republic of Ireland side winless in four. They have only kept one clean sheet in eight attempts, though, while the visitors have scored in five of their last six.

Portugal 3-2

Reason for tip

Portugal have scored at least three goals in three of their last five matches and have won two of these by a 3-2 scoreline. They also beat Spain 3-2 after extra time, while Ireland scored twice against Hungary last month.

  • Portugal have won 3-2 in two of their last five matches.

Selecao to star in Lisbon thriller

Portugal’s second UEFA Nations League success this summer has been followed by two high-scoring wins in World Cup qualifying, and they can edge another thriller when Republic of Ireland visit Lisbon.

The Selecao have scored 15 goals across their last five matches inside 90 minutes, putting multiple goals past the likes of Spain, Germany, and Denmark, and they should have no trouble flexing their attacking muscles against Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side were beaten 2-1 by Armenia last time out to extend their winless streak to four matches. They conceded twice against Hungary a few days before that defeat, and their last meeting with Portugal saw them lose 3-0 in June 2024.

The Boys in Green have improved going forward since then, though, scoring in five of their last six matches, so they may be able to breach a Portugal defence with only one clean sheet in their last eight.

Saturday’s favourites have scored at least three goals in three of their last five matches. Two of these have ended 3-2, adding to their extra-time win over Spain by the same scoreline, so that looks a solid correct score pick at long odds.
