Preston vs Hull Predictions
Hull were impressive winners on Boxing Day against fellow high-flyers Burnley. Second Half goals from Abel Hernandez, Jake Livermore and Sam Clucas secured a 3-0 win and one that Steve Bruce will be hoping will have brought their recent struggles to an end.
Although they have taken 9 points from their last 4 games, the victory over Burnley was their most convincing performance for some time and they’ve lost their last 3 on the road in all competitions. However they are still only 3 points behind leaders Derby and this game presents them with an opportunity to get back on track away from home.
It’s perhaps not a bad time to be playing Preston either. They had an excellent Autumn when some excellent defensive performances led them clear of danger but they come into this one after back-to-back defeats against Leeds and Huddersfield. Their loss at Huddersfield on Boxing Day was perhaps their worst performance of the season when an injury time consolation did little to ease the pain of a 3-1 defeat.
It was only the 2nd time this season they’d conceded more than 2 goals in a game and given they have the joint worst goalscoring record in the league, they’ll know that they will have to be better at the back here against a Hull side who score plenty but also are strong at the back.
They also have the squad to cope with playing 2 games in 48 hours and that could prove important here so at 7/5, the visitors look good value to pick up the 3 points in this one.
Preston are yet to score more than once at Deepdale in the Championship this term and that’s a worrying statistic. It’s hard to see them causing Hull’s defence too many problems so consider going for a 2-0 away win at 17/2.
