      Preston vs Ipswich Predictions

Both sides have made unbeaten starts with Preston adapting well to life at the higher tier, while Ipswich have responded extremely well to the disappointment of losing in the Play-Offs to East Anglian rivals Norwich at the end of last season.

They are certainly darkhorses to gatecrash the top two this term and if they weren’t perceived as an unfashionable club then more people would be talking seriously about them. A top six finish last season provided them with a solid foundation to build on and they have kept the majority of their squad from last year and still look strong at the back despite the loss of Tyrone Mings.

Mick McCarthy has an excellent track record in this league and his team are sitting pretty at the top with 7 points from 3 games. They have already had fixtures against top six finishers last season Brentford and recently relegated Burnley so it seems a bit odd that they are as long as 2/1 up against newly promoted opposition on Saturday.

There has only been one goal in the 3 Championship matches involving Preston this season so we can expect a tight game at Deepdale this weekend. It was North End who scored that goal though with Paul Gallagher netting at MK Dons to give Preston 5 points which represents a fine start.

Already it looks like they will have more than enough to stay in the division but goalscoring could be a serious problem. They scored 22 fewer goals than Milton Keynes who were promoted with them in League One last season and couldn’t find a way past one of the relegation favourites Rotherham in midweek. Therefore they may well struggle to break down a well organised Ipswich side here.

The Tractor Boys have scored in all of their last 18 competitive matches so despite coming up against a Preston team who are yet to concede in the league, you’d fancy Ipswich to net at some point in the game and with Preston struggling going forward it might just be enough to win the game.

Ipswich certainly look good value to win the game at 2/1 although given Preston’s strong defensive record it is highly unlikely to be anything other than a big win so backing a 1-0 away win at 7/1 is the most logical choice in the correct score market.
