Rangers/Rangers
Rangers 2-0
Tip Reasoning
- Rangers have kept clean sheets in each of their last seven home league games.
- Rangers won six of their last eight home league games at both HT/FT.
- Motherwell were losing at both HT/FT in five of their last seven away league games.
- Motherwell haven’t won a league game at Ibrox in seven years.
No European hangover for Rangers
After defeating German powerhouses Borussia Dortmund over two legs which included a special night at Ibrox on Thursday, Rangers return to league action with one thing on their mind – closing the three-point gap to league leaders and arch rivals Celtic.
The top-two began the weekend at least 20 points clear of third place, which in itself is an indicator that Rangers and Celtic are in a league of their own when it comes to the Scottish Premiership. As such, it shouldn’t be a matter of if Rangers beat Motherwell, but how can we get the most value out of such a result.
If Rangers can score early, that should be enough for the visitors to call it a day as they will certainly have a hard time breaking down this solid Rangers defence, which has not conceded a goal across their last 682 minutes of domestic home play.
Motherwell are on a slippery slope
Currently without a win in seven Scottish Premiership clashes, Motherwell risk dropping into the relegation group unless they can somehow do the unthinkable here. While they will take spirit from Dundee who recorded a draw against Rangers last week, it is certainly a tall order.
No side in the league lost more than Motherwell’s seven away games at both HT/FT this season, which actually accounts for over half of their away league trips overall.
As such, my main prediction is going to have to be a Rangers/Rangers success at both HT/FT, perhaps by a workmanlike 2-0 scoreline.
