Rayo Majadahonda vs Real Oviedo Predictions
Spanish football’s mostly unlikely stadium share continues this week as tiny Rayo Majadahonda will again take to the field at the Wanda Metropolitano, which will host the Champions League Final among other major matches this term. There should be a slightly bigger than normal crowd for this Rayo home game though with well-supported Real Oviedo the visitors as the Galicians continue their bid for a return to the top flight.
Not since the 2000/01 season have Oviedo graced the top tier of Spanish football. Their relegation that year brought to an end their 13 year stay in La Liga and it has been a rollercoaster ride since. In theory they’ve been in much better shape off the pitch in the past few years but 9th, 8th and 7th place finishes have seen them just miss out on the play-offs in each of the last three seasons. 8 games into this season, they sit in 8th place again and Oviedo fans will already be fearing another narrow miss.
Rayo Majadahonda fans, of which there aren’t many, will just be enjoying every minute at this level. They were playing in the fourth tier as recently as 2015 and have never previously appeared in the top two divisions, which require better facilities than their tiny home can offer. They’ve made a solid start too with 9 points from 8 games including a shock 2-1 win over Sporting Gijon last time out.
They’ll be aiming to repeat the trick against Galician giants again here and you wouldn’t bet against them pulling that off. They come into this one with a very decent return of 4 wins from their last 7 games and their last two performances have been excellent. They were only narrowly beaten 1-0 away to leaders Malaga before that win over another of the promotion favourites.
Oviedo aren’t quite on that level and their overall away record in recent times hasn’t been particularly great. They’ve won just 3 of their last 15 on the road in the Segunda Division. Their most recent away game was also in Madrid and saw them lose 2-0 at Alcorcon, another side of whom not a great deal is really expected.
They are the favourites here but they’ve not been massively convincing home or away this term in truth. If the hosts can repeat the level of their last two performances, they stand every chance of winning this game so backing Rayo Majadahonda Draw No Bet could be worth considering.
