RB Leipzig vs Borussia Monchengladbach Predictions

RB Leipzig are a side who are just seven years old, founded in 2009, and were promoted to the top flight on their second attempt last season. Leipzig have clearly made some wise-investments over the transfer window (see team news), spending about £20 million in total, and have taken many sides by surprise with their unbeaten start to the new campaign. Leipzig’s blistering form has seen them already better giants Borussia Dortmund at home with a 1-0 win and produce their biggest away win to date with a 4-0 win over Hamburg last Saturday. In decent form and with nine wins in their last eleven competitive wins at home, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s team represent formidable top-flight opponents.

Borussia M’gladbach have further cause for concern visiting Leipzig thanks to their questionable away record of late. Gladbach have taken just two wins from their thirteen competitive away fixtures in 2016 (W2 D2 L7), something that will no doubt be on coach Andre Schubert’s mind when they take on the hosts at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday. M’gladbach are, however, not struggling for goals and are getting the best out of talisman attacking midfielders Thorgan Hazard and Raffeal in recent matches. Hazard and Raffael led up front in Gladbach’s 3-5-1-2 formation and scored two goals each in their 4-1 win at home to Werder Bremen last weekend. Hazard has already scored as many goals in all competitions in the 2016/17 campaign so far (six) as he managed over the course of his entire debut season.

RB Leipzig’s booming start to the new Bundesliga season along with M’gladbach’s “poor” away form sees them as the bookies’ favourites at 6/5. While the visitors have clearly under-performed on the road in recent matches, we feel that they are definitely the better value bet in this match. Borussia M’gladbach are the stronger side on paper and it’s only a matter of time that RB Leipzig’s “wonder subs” fail to produce a result – four of Leipzig’s seven goals so far this season have been scored by substitutes. Leipzig may be able to buy quality, but they can’t buy experience. Borussia M’gladbach’s attacking midfielders are all more than settled into their roles and Raffael, Hazard and captain Lars Stindl alone have combined for six goals in their opening three matches. Expect this match to be explosive end-to-end football as RB Leipzig score their fair share of goals too.

As such, Borussia M’gladbach 0.0 Asian Handicap at 2.250 and Borussia M’gladbach to win 3-2 at 22/1 are our choice bets for this match.
