Reading vs MK Dons Predictions
This game was a Championship fixture last season and MK Dons actually had the better of the clashes so there isn’t the enormous gulf in class that you might find in one or two other ties taking place on Tuesday night.
MK Dons have responded pretty well to the disappointment of relegation, collecting 7 points from their opening 4 games in League One. Scott Wootton scored a dramatic late winner at Rochdale on Saturday to move them to the brink of the play-off places at this early stage in the campaign. Their League Cup 1st Round progress came virtue of a 3-2 win at Newport County and they’ll be hungry to compete well here as they take on Championship opposition once again.
Reading are still a work in progress under Jaap Stam. They’ve had a tough set of early fixtures which have included clashes against Newcastle and Brighton, who they drew 2-2 with at the Madejski at the weekend. A return of 4 points from 4 games is by no means a disaster and this game will give the Dutchman a chance to perhaps look at one or two other players. Reading have been a good cup side in recent years, although more so in the FA Cup than this competition, but they’ll be expecting to chalk up a win and go into the weekend with some momentum.
Goals look likely in this game. Both teams have scored in 10 of MK Dons’ last 12 games, if you include pre-season,and they look to be trying to get back to the sort of attacking brand of football that fired them to promotion two years ago. Reading have let in 8 goals in their last 3 matches, so clearly are a bit vulnerable at the back but ought to cause their lower league opponents plenty of problems too. So backing Both Teams to Score at 4/5 looks to offer good value in this one.
