Rennes should see off relegated Nimes

Rennes haven’t been able to emulate last season’s heroics and qualify for the Champions League, but they can enhance their top-six hopes by beating relegated Nimes.

A three-game winless run has not helped Rennes’ European qualification aspirations but they have faced Paris St-Germain and Monaco in that time, holding the Parisians to a point at home.

Prior to that 1-1 draw with PSG, Rennes had recorded three consecutive home wins against Dijon, Nantes and Strasbourg.

And they should be able to return to winning ways against a Nimes side that have lost nine of their 18 away games and already suffered top-flight relegation.

However, to their credit, Nimes have shown some spirit in recent assignments and they have lost only four of their last 14 fixtures.

The visitors were 2-1 winners at title-chasing Lille in March and they have failed to score in only two of their last 18 fixtures.

Nimes netted twice in a 5-2 defeat to Lyon last time out, taking their tally to seven goals across their last three fixtures, and they can grab a consolation prize against a Rennes outfit without a clean sheet in five.

Nimes’ last two away league defeats finished 2-1 and we are predicting this clash to follow suit.
