Rochdale looking to prolong survival fight

Rochdale will head into their penultimate match of the season sitting four points adrift of safety and knowing even a victory might not be enough to take their survival battle into the final weekend.

However, Dale already looked relegated just a few weeks ago, but a five-match unbeaten run, including three victories, means they are still clinging on to their League One status.

Brian Barry-Murphy had only seen his side win one home match all season heading into April, but Dale have since recorded three victories on the bounce at Spotland.

Mid-table Doncaster Rovers could provide the ideal opponents for Rochdale on Saturday, as Rovers’ form has nosedived since former manager Darren Moore left for Sheffield Wednesday in March.

Interim boss Andy Butler did win his first two matches in the dugout, but a run of one win in 13 has long seen Donny’s playoff hopes disappear.

Doncaster have also lost eight of their last 11 matches on the road and, given Rochdale’s need for the points, we are predicting another defeat for the Yorkshire club on Saturday.

It could well prove a tense contest, however, given what is at stake for Rochdale, with out overall prediction of a 1-0 home win reflecting that feeling.
