Roma vs Sampdoria Predictions
Roma’s league ambitions received a huge boost at the weekend, as they continued their improving away form with a win at Genoa. That, coupled with Juventus losing at Fiorentina, means the Giallorossi are serious title contenders. However, they need to switch their focus away from the Scudetto in midweek, as they look to book a place in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia.
The Giallorossi host Sampdoria on Thursday night, with the Coppa Italia representing a serious chance for them to pick up some silverware. They’re heavy favourites to progress to the last eight this week. On top of that, they face a very winnable home tie against either Sassuolo or Cesena in the next round, should they progress here. Roma have an excellent chance to make the semi-finals of the cup at least, as long as they are on their game.
Roma have an amazing home record this season, having won 100% of their Serie A matches. Their only home defeat in any competition this term was against Porto in August. They should see another victory this week, given how poor Sampdoria are on their travels. They’ve now failed to win in 90% of their away league games this season, claiming just 0.6 points per game. That hardly marks them out as a huge threat to the side sitting in second place in the table.
Roma average three goals per home league game this season, so they should be able to make short work of the visitors. However, they do need to worry about the Blucerchiati’s scoring record on their travels. While Sampdoria aren’t picking up points away from their own ground, that hasn’t stopped them from having an impressive scoring record. They’ve found the net in 90% of away matches.
We’re predicting some joy for the Blucerchiati going forward, especially since Roma have conceded in 60% of Serie A games, and six of their last eight at home. Sampdoria have found the net in seven straight away games, which includes trips to Juventus, Napoli and Fiorentina. We’re backing them to find the net again on Thursday, but we’re still backing a home victory. After all, 56% of Roma’s home league games have seen them win and concede. A repeat of that is priced at 8/5 with bet365.
