Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Roma’s 12 goals conceded means they own the meanest defence in Serie A and have won their last two games to nil, suggesting they can get revenge for September’s shock 1-0 loss to Torino. The visitors have hit a rocky patch of form, losing six of their last nine matches, and blanked at Atalanta on Saturday.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Torino were surprise 1-0 winners at the Stadio Olimpico in September but five goals in their last six away games does nothing to suggest they can secure a repeat result. Roma have beaten Lecce and Torino – two teams with a similar Serie A points tally to Torino’s 23 – 2-0 in their last two matches and may repeat the feat.

Roma vs Torino Predictions

  • Torino have managed just three wins in ten away games this season
  • None of the last three meetings have seen both teams find the net

Hosts heading for the quarter-finals

September saw Torino land a shock 1-0 win over Roma at the Stadio Olimpico and they will be hoping to channel the spirit of that Autumn victory when heading to the capital for Tuesday’s Coppa Italia last-16 clash.

Roma were still finding their feet under new boss Gian Piero Gasperini back then and while they are yet to fully get going – the Giallarossi are certainly not scoring at the rate his Atalanta side used to – they are definitely more settled now.

Gasperini’s side are firmly in the title race and improved their Scudetto search with Saturday’s 2-0 win over Sassuolo, their second shutout victory in as many games.

Torino to blank in capital clash

Roma’s defensive stability has been key to their success, with no Serie A side shipping fewer than their 12 goals, and a resolute backline should carry them into a fifth straight Coppa Italia quarter-final.

Torino have been inconsistent all season, with September’s Stadio Olimpico stunner representing a fluke more than a tactical masterclass from manager Marco Baroni, and things have only got worse since.

Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Atalanta was Il Toro’s sixth in nine games and given they have scored just five goals in their last six matches, it is hard to see them causing Italy’s best defence too many issues in this last-16 bout.
