Romania vs Spain Predictions

Somewhat unsurprisingly, Spain have made a flying start in qualifying for a major tournament, though they’re not the only ones who’re ticking along nicely. Romania come into match-day five in 2nd position after collecting seven points from their first four games in Group F. Cosmin Contra’s men will be hoping to be the first to take points off La Roja this time around.

Since losing to Sweden first time out, Romania have recovered well. They made light work of beating a weak Faroe Islands side, scoring four goals in the process, while they performed very well when drawing in Norway on match-day three. The fact that the Romanians scored twice and created 2.43 expected goals for on that occasion was very pleasing.

Defensively, Thursday’s hosts haven’t been great, as they’ve conceded in all but one of their qualifiers. Contra’s side even shipped at home against Faroe Islands, which doesn’t exactly bode well for the visit of Spain. However, there’s been lots to like about the way in which Romania have attacked in Group F. They’ve scored 12 in four, scoring at least twice in each of those four, while they’re also averaging a pleasing 2.15 expected goals for.

Unsurprisingly, Spain have also thrived from an attacking point of view. The Group F leaders have scored at least twice in each of their four matches, scoring a total of 11 goals. Last time out, La Roja showed their quality to dismantle Sweden, winning by three goals to nil in Madrid. Prior to that they beat Faroe Islands away from home, but they failed to keep a clean sheet. The Spanish also surrendered a goal against Norway, who created an awful lot on the counter on match-day one.

In the betting, ‘Both Teams to Score’ stands out at the prices. Judging by their previous defensive efforts, Romania will find it tough to keep La Roja’s menacing attack at bay, but they can certainly get involved going the other way. The fact that they counter-attacked well against Norway bodes well ahead of a match against a Spanish side that has already been caught out on the break a couple of times in qualifying.

All in all, when we consider the attacking efforts of both in Group F, the chances of both teams notching at Arena Națională on Thursday evening appear to be slightly greater than the current prices suggest. Therefore, a punt on the above provides punters with a slither of value.

‘Correct Score’ players are pointed in the direction of a 2-1 win for the visitors. For all Romania have impressed going forward, they’ve shown slightly less resistance, so backing the Spaniards to win by a narrow margin, much as they did against Norway, appeals most
