Sassuolo vs Genk Predictions
Sassuolo’s European dream may have turned into a nightmare, but at least it’s almost over for them. They’ve gone from a shock sixth place finish last season to struggling in the lower reaches of the Serie A table. They haven’t even been able to keep their European adventure alive, as they’re already out of the Europa League.
The Neroverdi did manage to pick up a much needed win last weekend, and that has lifted them nine points clear of the drop. Things are looking a little brighter for them now, although they have some tough fixtures against Fiorentina and Inter to come. Those could have quite some bearing on their selection for this final group stage clash, especially as they have nothing left to play for.
While the hosts need to keep their focus on the league, their opponents have to take something from this clash. They face a Genk side who are fighting with Athletic Bilbao for top spot in this group. If the Belgians slip up in Italy, then the Spanish side can capitalise and jump above them. The good news for Genk is that they face a team who are likely to make changes.
The hosts have just two points from their last four Europa League games. They’ve managed just one win in their last seven in Serie A, while their only victory in this group came back in September. That was with a full strength squad to call upon. How are they going to fare against Genk with changes likely?
Genk have scored in every one of their group games so far, and we can see them continuing that record here. Sassulo conceded three in the reverse fixture in Belgium, part of the nine goals they’ve leaked in their last four matches in this competition. Genk’s chances of getting a result look high, but this isn’t an easy ground to play at.
Sassuolo have won 57% of their league matches here, while they’ve scored five in their two home matches in this group. Genk aren’t the most useful side on their travels, they’ve won just 12% of their away league games, while they’ve conceded 2.25 a game on the road this season. They’ve let in nine goals in the Europa League already, eight of which have come away. We’re backing Sassuolo to add to that, but we also see the hosts conceding. Both teams to score is our tip, which is priced at 7/10 with bet365.
