Quarter final spot up for grabs on Thursday

Sassuolo and SPAL meet at MAPEI Stadium this Thursday with both sides hoping to advance to the quarter finals of the Coppa Italia.

The hosts have struggled for consistency all season, being unable to find consecutive wins in Serie A since October. Despite this they are seventh in Italy’s top division and have scored in seven games in a row to keep in touch with the race for European football.

SPAL have struggled for form a little over the past few weeks, only taking eight points from their last six games. This is in stark contrast to their prior form that saw them win six in a row, only conceding two goals along the way.

Despite the two sides playing in different leagues, this looks like it could be a relatively close match with Sassuolo likely to play a weakened team and SPAL trying to pull off an upset and move into the latter stages of the competition.

With that in mind, we’re predicting both teams to score in this match as both try and find the win to put them through to the next round. Both teams have shown they have the ability to find the net and that could be proven in this encounter.

A scoreline is a little harder to predict with the defences of the two sides also performing well. Ultimately the talent at the disposal of Sassuolo should be enough to see them through and we’re predicting the hosts pick up a 2-1 win.
