Scunthorpe vs Bristol City Predictions
Bristol City got off to a flying start to the new season winning all of their opening 3 games. Tammy Abraham was the inspiration with the youngster scoring 4 times in the opening week, but since then they’ve come up against stronger sides and have come unstuck. They’ve suffered 1-0 defeats against Norwich and Newcastle and complete 3 successive league games against sides that were in the Premier League last term when they host Aston Villa on Saturday.
That game is likely to be high up on the thinking of Lee Johnson when he picks his side for this game. Bristol City were perhaps a little unfortunate not to get something from their game with Newcastle at the weekend. They’ll be pretty content with how things are going overall and the League Cup is unlikely to be a massive priority, at least at this stage.
Scunthorpe will view this as a good chance to cause an upset and hopefully get a plum draw in the next round. The League One side have made an outstanding start to the season with 10 points from their opening 4 league games. This leaves them in 2nd place at this early stage in the season. They needed Extra Time to see off Notts County in the last round of this competition but come into this match on a real high having hammered Gillingham 5-0 at the weekend.
Bristol City are the favourites for the game but, given the form Scunthorpe are in and the changes the visitors are likely to make, there is real potential for a shock here. The last round demonstrated that fired up lower league sides are well capable of knocking out Championship teams in this competition. Scunthorpe are one of the strongest teams outside the top two divisions, so the gulf in class isn’t massive here, and backing Scunthorpe 0.0 Asian Handicap at 2.225 looks to offer the best value.
