Tip Reasoning

  • Second-placed Antwerp have only lost one of their last nine league games, against leaders Union Saint-Gilloise.
  • The visitors have also won eight of their 13 away games in the Belgian First Division this term.
  • Seraing United, meanwhile, have lost eight of their last ten games, failing to score in seven of those 10.

Antwerp looking to bounce back after rivals loss

Royal Antwerp, currently sat second in the Belgian top flight and chasing a first title since 1957, are looking to bounce back after losing to league leaders Union SG last time out. That reverse was Antwerp’s first in nine matches, and although Brian Priske’s team are now 10 points from the summit, the format of the Belgian league, which includes a Championship playoff where teams’ existing points tallies are halved, means their title hopes are still very much alive, and every point remains crucial.

Antwerp have a strong away record, and will be confident of bouncing back at Seraing on Friday night. The visitors have not lost an away game since mid-November, going unbeaten in six road trips, and as well as winning away at league leaders Union SG back in September, have earned impressive European draws at Fenerbahce and Eintracht Frankfurt in the recent past.

Seraing, meanwhile, have lost eight of their last ten games, failing to score in seven matches during that run. Having steadied the ship after an eight-match losing run, Seraing fell to a 2-0 loss to Charleroi last time out, the 12th time that they’ve been shutout in league action already this campaign, as they struggle to claw away from the relegation play-off place.

Back visitors for an important win

Only rock-bottom Beerschot have scored fewer than the 26 goals managed by RFC Seraing in the Belgian top-flight this term, while only Union SG and Gent have conceded fewer than Antwerp, who have also won their last two away games to nil.

With that in mind, we’re backing the title-chasing visitors for a shutout win on Friday night, while a 2-0 Antwerp triumph appears to represent a decent correct score prediction.
