Sevilla vs Manchester City Predictions
- Sevilla have lost three of their first four games this season
- The hosts won one of six group stage games last year
- City have scored 20 goals across their first six league games
- Haaland scored 15 goals in 13 Champions League games for Dortmund
Setback for City
After an incredible start, Man City’s momentum ground to a halt in Saturday’s draw at Aston Villa. The Citizens have still hit 20 goals across their first six games, which should be a worry for Sevilla.
The hosts have made a horror start to the new season, losing three of their last four games. They are struggling to keep pace domestically, so stepping up to face one of the favourites for the European Cup looks like a tall order.
Sevilla to fall short
Sevilla have won just one of eight group stage games against English Premier League sides in the Champions League. That includes home and away defeats to Man City when the pair were last drawn together and another loss looks to be on the way for the hosts.
The hosts have taken just a point from their opening four games in La Liga, striking late to salvage a point at home to Real Valladolid. They were beaten at Osasuna and Almeria before being blown away by Barcelona at the weekend.
Having shipped eight goals across a fairly easy start, Sevilla look up against it in this clash. The hosts managed to win just once across their six group games last year and they appear to have regressed since then, so this should be a straightforward win for the visitors.
Haaland to fire City to win
City have fallen short in this competition over the years, but they have added a man who has proven to be a scoring terror in this competition. Erling Haaland has scored 23 goals in 19 Champions League appearances.
That’s the best goals per game ratio of any player in the history of the competition. The Norwegian scored 15 in 13 for Borussia Dortmund, including four goals in two matches against Sevilla in 2020-21. back him to fire City to a win, while he should add some gloss to the scoreline.
With City racking up the goals in the league back them to trouble a Sevilla outfit who were clearly second-best against Barca at the weekend. City should prove too strong, so a -1 handicap and a 2-0 victory look worth backing.
