Sevilla vs Sporting Gijon Predictions
Their Champions League campaign ended on Tuesday night with a 1-0 win over Juventus. The result meant they finished 3rd in the group and will now get to try and defend their Europa League crown.
It also made it 6 wins out of 7 at home for Sevilla in all competitions and there are clear signs that they are turning the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan back into the fortress it was last season when they were defeated only once in all competitions. The 6 sides to have lost at the ground in recent weeks include Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia and now Juve so they will have no reason to fear Sporting Gijon.
The newly promoted club picked up a much needed win last time out when they beat fellow strugglers Las Palmas 3-1 but they had lost 4 games in a row prior to that and have lost all of their last 4 matches away from home.
Therefore there should only be one result here and it is likely to be just a question of how many goals Sevilla can win by. They have scored 20 times in their last 9 at home against strong opposition with Manchester City another side to have visited and Getafe, perhaps the weakest side they have faced were thumped 5-0.
Sporting Gijon have started conceding a few goals of late too and therefore Sevilla do look really good value at 1.975 when starting with a -1.5 Asian Handicap.
With no European action for a couple of months now, Sevilla will be desperate to improve on their current 10th place in La Liga and will be eager to put down a bit of a marker here. A comfortable win shouldn’t be beyond them and you can back them to win 3-0 at 8/1.
