Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds Predictions

Sheffield Wednesday against Leeds is always one of the most hotly contested games in the Championship season and over the past 10 years or so it has tended to be a fairly even contest but there is no doubt about which club is in the better shape right now. Wednesday are bidding to repeat last season’s top six finish and they started well with a 1-0 home win over Aston Villa thanks to a Fernando Forestieri goal. Everything looked rosy until their talisman refused to board a bus to Norwich for their second league game last weekend.

The Owls got a really good 0-0 draw without the Argentine, who has since apologised for his actions but is seemingly still keen on a move away. However they slumped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Burton in midweek in a game that was worryingly similar to some of their more inept showings on the road last season, of which there were a few.

Hillsborough was something of a fortress though and this isn’t a good place for Gary Monk to go in search of his first Leeds win in the Championship. He would have been still searching for his first point had Chris Wood not fired in a last gasp leveller at home to Fulham on Tuesday night. It looked set to be 3 defeats out of 3 for Leeds following a 3-0 loss at QPR and 2-1 home defeat against Birmingham City.

Carlos Carvalhal has a decision to make here but is likely to recall Fernando Forestieri up front and he may feel as though he has some bridges to build with the Owls fans after his actions last week. He is their best player and someone capable of punishing a Leeds defence that has looked very shaky so far. They were second best for much of their home game against Fulham on Tuesday and against a Wednesday side that has won all of their last 3 Championship home games to nil, they are likely to be second best again.

You can back Sheffield Wednesday to win at 8/11 and pile some more misery on Gary Monk’s Leeds.
