Good week for the Foxes
After being blown away by Chelsea, Leicester responded perfectly with two wins from two. They beat Legia Warsaw in the Europa League before Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Watford.
That victory lifted them into the top 10 in the Premier League and their hopes of a European push look to be back on. However, the Foxes continue to leak goals and they’re no closer to easing up their defensive issues.
Home comforts for Saints
Southampton were beaten 4-0 at Liverpool on Saturday, their 14th loss in 18 league trips in 2021. They’ll be delighted to return home this week, having lost once in six home matches so far this term.
The hosts aren’t exactly high-scoring at home, but they’ve improved in recent outings. The hosts have scored in each of their last three at St Mary’s and we’re backing them to trouble a vulnerable Leicester defence.
Back goals at St Mary’s
Leicester have conceded in their last 13 games in all competitions and they head into this clash with the fourth-worst defensive record in the Premier League. The Foxes have seen both teams score in 100% of their league trips, a run which should continue here.
Southampton are improving in front of goal but the visitors are also stepping things up going forward. Jamie Vardy’s brace at the weekend points to the Foxes clicking in attack and I’m backing that to lead to goals in this clash. Both teams to score is my first prediction, while I’m backing 1-1 with half of the Saints’ home matches finishing level.
Southampton predicted lineup: McCarthy, Livramento, Salisu, Bednarek, Walker-Peters, Redmond, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Elyounoussi, Adams, A. Armstrong
Leicester City predicted lineup: Schmeichel, Castagne, Evans, Soyuncu, Thomas, Ndidi, Soumare, Lookman, Maddison, Barnes, Vardy
- Both teams have found the net in four of the last six Premier League games between these sides
- Southampton have lost just one of six home games this season
