Sporting Lisbon and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Sporting Lisbon have won all 12 home league games this season with both teams scoring in five of the last eight. Meanwhile, Boavista have lost two of their last four away games. But the Panthers have scored in eight of their 12 away Primeira Liga games this term, so could push Sporting more than most.

Sporting Lisbon 3-1

Reason for tip

Sporting have scored three or more goals in six of their last seven home league games. They have conceded in five of their last eight at Estadio Jose Alvalade, but only twice more than one goal.

Sporting Lisbon vs Boavista Predictions

  • Sporting Lisbon have won all 12 home league games this season with both teams scoring in five of the last eight
  • Boavista have scored in eight of their 12 away Primeira Liga games this term
  • Sporting have scored three or more goals in six of their last seven home league games

Lions look for another home win

Sporting should retain their place at the top of the Primeira Liga table when they resume domestic action against mid-table Boavista on Sunday.

It is 48 years since Boavista last won at Sporting’s home with the Porto-based club having managed only 12 draws in the 41 meetings that have followed.

Sporting have accumulated 14 consecutive victories at home against the Panthers, including last season’s 3-0 win in the match that will be remembered for Nuno Santos’ stunning goal that earned him the nomination for the Puskas award.

Panthers can pounce for a goal

They won 3-0 at Arouca last weekend in a game that was not as comprehensive a victory as the scoreline suggests, but their home form remains a perfect 12 out of 12 this term.

Boavista earned a very good 1-0 home win over sixth-placed Moreirense last time out and could be a little fresher for the fight than Sporting, who exited the Europa League after losing 2-1 to Atalanta in Bergamo on Thursday.

But Ruben Amorim has the squad depth and tactical acumen to derive another home win with both teams scoring a more likely outcome due to Sporting’s heavy recent workload.
