Sporting Lisbon vs FC Porto Predictions
- Both of these sides have won their opening three games
- Sporting have scored 12 goals in their trio of victories while Porto have netted nine in theirs
- The Lions have won their last three home clashes with the Dragons
Champions set for their toughest test yet
Portuguese champions Sporting started the season with a 1-0 Super Cup defeat to Benfica but they have gone about proving they are still the nation’s best side in fantastic fashion, winning their opening three Primeira Liga by an aggregate 12-1 score.
Their biggest test comes on Saturday, though, when Porto, another side with a 100 per cent record, visit the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Porto were well off the pace last season, finishing 11 points behind Sporting, and their troubles carried over into summer with a group-stage exit at the Club World Cup. However, some smart signings – Borja Sainz in particular has caught the eye – have seen them improve in the early weeks of the new campaign.
Dragons have enough firepower to score in Lisbon
The Dragons have won all three of their Primeira Liga games without scoring a goal and will be full of confidence ahead of their trip to the capital, even if they are underdogs.
Sporting’s nine-game unbeaten run and three-match win streak in head-to-heads with Porto in Lisbon are the main reasons for their favouritism, but a shade of odds-against is not tempting enough to take with the visitors in such fantastic form.
Instead, take both teams to score for the fifth time in seven meetings. The rivals have scored a combined 21 goals in nine matches and should put on a show.
