Strasbourg vs Lens Predictions
- Strasbourg have won five of their last six home games
- Lens threw away a two-goal lead in losing to Monaco last Saturday
- Strasbourg ended Lyon’s 13-game winning run last weekend
La Racing moving back into the fast lane
Strasbourg ended Lyon’s 13-game win streak at Stade de la Meinau last weekend and will be confident of pulling off another victory over a top-three side when Lens make the trip to Alsace on Friday.
Le Racing seem to have adjusted to the change in head coach since Gary O’Neil was brought in to replace Chelsea-bound Liam Rosenior and impressed with their intensity against Les Gones.
They created six big chances and had an xG of around seven times that of the visitors, who were knocking on the door of second place before the setback. Lens occupy that spot again after their latest winning run was ended at home by Monaco last Saturday.
Red flags raised after Lens collapse
At first glance, it may seem like they are still in a good place with 14 wins from their last 16 games, but the manner of the defeat should raise a red flag. They lost from 2-0 up at home to a team who were physically and mentally exhausted, while probably also distracted by the Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain.
Another cause for concern is Lens’ record against the top six-teams. In seven matches against the Ligue 1 heavyweights, they have suffered four defeats and managed only three wins. Strasbourg are currently seventh, where they finished after a late slump last season, but they appear to be moving back into the fast lane.
Back the home side to win again with at least three goals in the game. The hosts’ last eight games have featured at least three goals while five of Lens’ last six have surpassed the 2.5-goal mark.
