The Strongest vs Montevideo Wanderers Predictions

Bolivia’s The Strongest pulled off a major upset last week as they managed to beat Montevideo Wanderers 2-0 away from home in the first leg of this clash. They had just three shots in the entire game, compared to Montevideo Wanderers’ eight attempts, but they still managed to build a comfortable lead for this home leg.

This now leaves The Uruguayan side in desperate need of a result in the hostile environment of La Paz. The Bolivian capital is nearly 4,000 metres above sea level and the altitude has often had an effect on visiting teams who aren’t used to playing in such an environment.

This is illustrated perfectly in their Copa Libertadores record on home soil. They are unbeaten in their last 12 home games in the tournament and have won ten of them. This isn’t down to them being the better side though, as away from home they have lost 23 of their 27 matches. The writing looks to be on the wall for Montevideo Wanderers, who hail from the capital of Uruguay which is just 43 metres above sea level.

Montevideo Wanderers aren’t even in good form to counteract this huge disadvantage. They have won just one of their last five matches in all competitions and lost their last Copa Libertadores away game 3-2 to Club Universitario in January. Fortunately for them they had an excellent home result to fall back on then, but that isn’t the case this time.

Away from home the visitors have won just one of their last eight in all competitions and in their short Copa Libertadores history they have lost four, drawn one, and won one of their six trips away.

Four of these six away days have ended with at least three goals being scored in total, and with the visitors needing to score at least two on Thursday, I think we can expect goals here too. The Strongest have seen at least three in three of their last six too. We are expecting a home win here though, so odds of 11/10 for The Strongest to Win and Over 2.5 Goals look good value for money. We’re also going for a 3-1 correct score predictions at 11/1.
