Sunderland vs Leicester Predictions
Sunderland were described by Jurgen Klopp as the most defensive side he has ever seen after their clash at Anfield last weekend, but if I were a Sunderland fan looking back at their lack of defensive prowess last season I would take that as a huge compliment. They managed to hold off the free scoring Liverpool for the majority of the game before they snatched a 2-0 victory, but positive signs were there.
This came after back to back victories against Hull and Bournemouth ended their disastrous start to the season, and the difference between this side and the one who picked up just two points from their first ten matches is huge.
Sunderland only scored seven goals in those opening ten games, but they now have five in their last three. Jermain Defoe has scored two of these five goals to take his tally to seven for the season, and with four of those coming at home I think he’s the best option for our anytime goalscorer predictions at 7/5 with bet365.
The hosts’ most important player should be able to forge a fair few opportunities given Leicester’s recent form. Their last gasp 2-2 draw at home to Middlesbrough last weekend made it three draws, two defeats, and just one win from their last six games in all competitions.
Their Premier League form record reads even worse with one win, three draws, and four defeats from their last eight outings, and away from home it gets worse still. They have picked up just one point from their six away days in the Premier League this season, conceding 16 goals and scoring just five at the other end.
To be fair to Leicester this has included some very tough games, but they have also lost to Hull and Watford on the road as they aim their focus directly at the Champions League.
Sunderland will feel they have a great chance of getting something here. They have managed to score in six of their seven home games in all competitions this season and Leicester haven’t kept a Premier League clean sheet on the road since April. Leicester have scored in all but one of their away days though, whilst Sunderland have conceded in all but one of their home outings in the league.
This makes odds of 3/4 for Both Teams to Score look very good value for money, so I’m backing that as my main predictions. I do think Sunderland have a great chance of getting a win here, so I’m going for a 2-1 correct score predictions at 11/1 as well.
