Swans hoping to build on encouraging start

Swansea made an encouraging start to the new Championship season, coming from behind to win 2-1 at Stoke, and Vitor Matos will be hoping his side can follow up when they host Sheffield United.

The Swans have lost just one of their last eight Championship games, while only two teams, Coventry and Southampton, have collected three points as visiting sides at the Swansea.com Stadium since Matos’ first game in charge last November.

A play-off push could well be the aim for Swansea this season and after winning 11 of their 23 home matches in 2025-26, they will be confident of picking up three points at the expense of a Sheffield United side dealing with off-field issues.

Off-field issues could leave Blades blunted

Sheffield United lacked a cutting edge in their league opener – a goalless draw at Birmingham – a match that saw them register just three shots and produce an xG of 0.36, but it is matters away from the pitch that have been dominating the Blades’ build up to this game.

Financial issues involving the club’s owners means the Yorkshire outfit are facing the possibility of a points deduction, while it is also scuppering boss Chris Wilder’s attempts to strengthen his squad.

United lost their first six league matches last season, and although they have already improved on that with their draw against Birmingham, it looks set to be another slow start for the Blades, who may return from South Wales empty-handed.
