Sweden vs Portugal Predictions
- Sweden have lost just one of their last eight home games.
- Portugal have failed to win two of their last four away games.
- Sweden have scored exactly one goal in four of their last six at home and played out two 1-1 draws.
Swedish defence to frustrate Portugal
Sweden fell to a narrow defeat at home to world champions France on Saturday, but they’ll be hoping to get their first point of the UEFA Nations League campaign when they host defending champions Portugal on Tuesday.
The visitors thrashed Croatia 4-1 in their opener at the weekend, but they’re likely to come up against a sterner defensive outfit in Stockholm and their record away from home isn’t quite as promising. They have failed to win two of their last six trips away and face a Sweden side that were on an eight match unbeaten streak before falling to France.
That defeat to France was also their first competitive home defeat since 2018, and they have clinched results against the likes of Russia, Iceland and Spain in this period.
Portugal could also be without Cristiano Ronaldo again after the captain was ruled out of the match against Croatia due to an infected bee sting (yes, you read that correctly). His absence didn’t seem to hinder them much against Croatia, but with Sweden offering so much at the back the absence of a player who can turn the game on its head in an instant would be a massive blow.
With Sweden losing just one of their last eight home matches and Portugal faltering away to Italy and Ukraine in the last two years, we think backing the Swedes to get something from this match is the right choice.
Sweden have scored exactly one goal in four of their last six home games and have played out two 1-1 draws, so we’re opting for a 1-1 correct score prediction as well.
