Mainz are riding the crest of a wave at the minute as they sit in the top half of the Bundesliga after 22 rounds for the first time since 2015/16. Their strong position is largely down to some imperious home league form (W6, D3, L1), though they welcome the most in-form Bundesliga side this time around, so a serious test of their mettle is coming.

However despite that, Mainz have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last eight home clashes with Leverkusen, six of which ended in defeat.

Fresh from scoring five goals in their last away trip in Dortmund, Leverkusen look to extend the Bundesliga’s longest currently active overall winning streak (W4) at one of the toughest grounds to travel to this season, the Mewa Arena.

Much like their hosts at home, Leverkusen have been unbelievable on their travels. Only Bayern Munich have picked up more than Leverkusen’s 21 points in away league games (W6, D3, L2).

Meanwhile, Leverkusen have only lost in two of their 16 overall league games entered as favourites this season (W10, D4, L2), inspiring confidence amongst punters. As such, I predict an away win, but perhaps by a slender 1-0 scoreline, just as Leverkusen produced in their last two clashes at this venue.
