Sydney FC vs Brisbane Roar Predictions

  • Sydney FC are now 11 games unbeaten, winning 10 of those as they continue to march on towards another A-League title.
  • Brisbane Roar have finally found form, going on a five-game unbeaten run and becoming genuine contenders for finals series football as a result.
  • Sydney FC have averaged 2.35 goals per game this season and have scored two or more in 12 of their 14 games.
  • Brisbane Roar have scored just 16 in 14, a rate of 1.14 goals per game. They’ve conceded at a slightly worse rate of 1.35 goals per game.

Can Sydney FC stretch their unbeaten run even further?

Sydney FC continued their impressive form with a commanding 3-0 win over Melbourne Victory last weekend. That win, combined with Melbourne City only managing a draw, stretched their lead at the top of the table to 10 points. While that least isn’t uncatchable, it looks unlikely Steve Corica’s men are dropping points anytime soon and have the A-League title fully in their sights.

Sydney FC are the only side in the league to average more than two goals a game with a record of 33 goals in 14 games and they’ll be keen to add to that tally against a Brisbane side they’ve already beaten 5-1 this term. Sydney are also one of only two sides who have conceded less than a goal again as they continue to dominate once again.

Brisbane have finally found their feet but will they stumble here?

Brisbane Roar have taken a while to make an impact on the A-League this season but they have finally been able to string together a decent set of results, going five games unbeaten, and the side now sit just one point outside the finals series. Consecutive wins over Wellington Phoenix and Central Coast Mariners have helped with this immensely, providing the club with their first consecutive victories of the season.

Goals are still a slight issue for the side, with just 16 in 14 games, but they’ve improved their defensive record in recent weeks, keeping two consecutive clean sheets. This will build confidence but they are still lacking a top-quality striker to push them into the top six.

Which unbeaten record will come to an end?

It’s hard to look past Sydney FC claiming another win this weekend with the side having home advantage and such excellent form behind them. While Brisbane Roar have improved defensively, they are coming up against the most potent attack in the league, who have scored two or more goals in 87% of their games this season, and we’re backing Sydney to win the game with a -1 handicap.

For that to happen, Sydney need to win by at least two goals and we see this being the case, although perhaps not in the most commanding fashion. A 2-0 win looks a likely result with Sydney being able to show their dominance but Brisbane able to demonstrate their improvement in defence. Brisbane have struggled to find the net this season and we can’t see them getting on the scoresheet this weekend, with Sydney running out winners once again.
