The Strongest vs Trujillanos Predictions

Both sides got their group campaigns underway last week with very tough games and ones they were expected to lose. The Strongest pulled off the shock of the competition so far by winning 1-0 in Brazil against Sao Paulo, a stunning result for a Bolivian club away from home. However Venezuela’s Trujillanos were brushed aside by a blistering 2nd half display from holders River Plate as the Argentines swept to a 4-0 victory.

The Strongest’s win has really blown the group wide open as the Bolivians will be confident of getting points from all their home games with the immense altitude of La Paz offering them a distinct advantage. They are very strong favourites to win this game and are in good form overall having lost just 1 of their last 7 in all competitions.

Trujillanos were outclassed by River in their Libertadores debut and will be well aware that Venezuelan teams tend to struggle in this competition. They’ve won their last 3 in the league and are 2nd in the Venzuelan top flight and haven’t had to play a match since their defeat last week to River so will at least have had a little time in La Paz to try and adapt to the conditions.

Anyone in doubt about the role altitude plays in these games need only look at The Strongest’s home record in this competition. The Bolivians have won all of their last 9 Libertadores home games scoring 20 goals in the process, conceding just 6. They’ve all come over the past 2 years and they progressed from their group in this competition last year. Their extra experience of both continental action and the conditions should prove very evident here and backing The Strongest to win to nil at 4/5 looks a solid punt.
