Tottenham Hotspur managed to pick up their first win of the season on Sunday as they beat Sunderland 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from Ryan Mason.

It was another unconvincing performance from Spurs though, with their attacking players once again failing too produce any inspiration.

The problem is largely the absence of Christian Eriksen due to a minor injury. The playmaker is the creative hub of the Tottenham team, and without him the likes of Harry Kane just don’t get any service.

This win did take their unbeaten streak to four games though, with draws against Stoke, Leicester, and Everton preceding the win at Sunderland.

But their six point total after five league games leaves them in 12th position in the Premier League, and the over reliance on Kane and Eriksen will be a worry for Spurs fans.

Qarabag come into their Europa League curtain raiser in much higher spirits than their North London opponents.

They have won their last five matches on the trot and are unbeaten in seven games. They narrowly lost to Celtic in the Champions League 3rd qualifying round, but managed to beat Young Boys in the Europa League playoff 4-0 on aggregate.

They have also managed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last four games in all competitions, and this excellent record leaves them top of the Azerbaijan Premyer Liga with ten points from their opening four games.

Spurs haven’t been in good attacking form so far this season, and although they should win this match I don’t see them scoring a great many goals. Christian Eriksen will probably be rested even if he has recovered from his injury, and the home side have only seen over 2.5 goals scored in one of their five opening games this season.

This makes odds of 1/1 for Under 2.5 goals look very good value, although Qarabag are perhaps a bit worse defensively that some of the sides Spurs have faced so far this season.
