    Tip Reasoning

Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League campaign has come to an earlier than expected end, with their 2-1 loss to Monaco last time out leaving them 3rd in the table, three points adrift of Bayer Leverkusen but with a worse head to head result. This means they are either facing an early exit from Europe all together or another season in the Europa League knockout stages.

Mauricio Pocchettino is unlikely to be that interested in Europa League football, and with him knowing a defeat to CSKA Moscow on Wednesday would leave them bottom of the group, there is a significant chance that he might field a largely weakened side. This is made more likely by the fact they have a trip to Old Trafford coming up at the weekend.

Spurs did manage to get back to form on Saturday with a 5-0 demolition of Swansea though, with that being just their second win in their last 11 matches in all competitions.

Harry Kane and Heung Min Son both managed to get on the score-sheet on Saturday, but I think Kane is likely to be rested on Wednesday. With Vincent Janssen out injured Son will probably be the main attacking threat. The South Korean has scored six goals so far this season, so backing him to score anytime looks the best choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions.

CSKA Moscow managed to break out of their own poor run of form in November. Their 4-0 thrashing of Ural on Saturday made it three wins and three draws from their last six matches. Their run of just one win in nine games prior to that leaves them down in 3rd position in the Russian Premier League though.

Spurs are the huge bookies favourites for this tie, but I’m struggling to see why. They are out of form and unlikely to particularly want a campaign in the Europa League. CSKA Moscow are likely to be much more up for a continuation of European football, and I think they have a chance of a result at a possibly weakened Spurs side who have struggled at Wembley. Backing CSKA Moscow Win or Draw Double chance at 13/8 looks a good choice, so I’m going for that along with a 1-1 correct score predictions at 13/2.
