Toulouse vs Versailles Predictions

To win, or Toulouse?

Ligue 2 leaders Toulouse enter their second Coupe De France round of 16 clash in as many seasons after winning last years match 2-1 en route to being eliminated at the quarter final stage. However, the hosts look like a serious threat, having scored five goals in their two home games in 2022.

Toulouse appear to be a top-flight side in waiting as they look to go one better after losing out in last season’s relegation/promotion play-off.

While this game is but a distraction to their main goal, they will surely be seeking to keep their momentum going in what should be a straight forward win against tier four opponents. Four of Toulouse’s six historic R16 appearances in this competition settled with a 2+ goal margin and within 90 minutes.

Uncharted territory for Versailles

The semi-professional club Versailles have never been this deep in a Coupe De France tournament to date, so club history is already secured in that respect. However, they lost both of their prior CDF encounters with Ligue 2 opponents by a 2+ goal margin.

Those encounters included a 5-1 defeat to Dijon and a 4-2 loss to then second-tier Lens back in 2018. Versailles have manoeuvred fixtures against  fellow tier four and lower opponents, with the biggest scalp claimed so far being that of Poissy, telling us everything we need to know about the difficulty jump.

I predict a comprehensive home victory here given the sheer gulf in class between the sides. I am backing Toulouse -1 at an odds-on price, though you could easily take -2 at above evens if you feel more risky. Much like their home wins of late, Toulouse could score four goals yet again.
