Tranmere vs Coventry Predictions
- Tranmere have lost just three of their 11 home games in League One this season.
- Coventry’s win over Wycombe on Sunday was their first away league win of the season, with seven of their 10 outings ending all square.
- Three of Tranmere’s last five home league games have ended 1-1.
Tranmere make themselves difficult to beat at Prenton Park
Tranmere were always one of the favourites for League One relegation this season after finishing 6th in League Two last term, and at the halfway point of the campaign they unsurprisingly find themselves embroiled in a battle at the bottom.
They sit 20th in the table, only outside the drop zone on goals scored but harbouring a game in hand on many of the teams around them. Their 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool on Sunday made it two wins, three draws and five defeats from their last 10 League One matches, but they do have cause for optimism as they prepare for the first match of 2020.
The Superwhites have far from the best record at Prenton Park, but they have at least made themselves difficult to beat there. Only three of their 11 home league games have ended in defeat, and they haven’t lost on home soil since mid-November.
Coventry push for promotion in tight League One battle
Coventry are coming into this match on the back of a big win at top of the table Wycombe, and with that result making it two wins on the bounce for the Sky Blues they have pushed into contention for promotion.
Currently, they sit 5th in the table but just two points adrift of the automatic promotion spots. That being said, defeat on New Year’s Day could potentially send them as low as 10th in the table, so things are very tight in the race for promotion.
One thing that has been lacking from Coventry’s season is any sort of momentum when it comes to winning games. They have only won nine of their 22 outings so far, drawing a joint league high 10 matches in the process.
Another stalemate on the cards for draw specialists Coventry
Incredibly, their victory over Wycombe at the weekend was their first away win of the season in League One, with seven of their nine previous outings ending in a draw. Considering Tranmere have only lost three home games all season, we think backing a Tranmere Win or Draw Double Chance is a great value offering.
It’s only natural that we look towards another stalemate for the correct score prediction too. Three of Tranmere’s last five home games have ended 1-1, and they have averaged 1.54 goals per home game and conceded 1.27 at the other end. Coventry have a similar record of 1.4 goals scored and 1.6 conceded per away game, making a 1-1 draw the natural choice in this instance.
