Uruguay can leapfrog Ecuador

Uruguay entertain on Ecuador in World Cup 2022 qualifying on Thursday and I’m expecting a win for the hosts in this match-up.

La Celestes are missing some big names for these latest fixtures. There is no Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani, Darwin Nunez or Sebastian Coates in this Uruguay squad but they still have plenty of talent within their ranks and managed a 4-2 win over Bolivia last time out.

Ecuador sit in third in CONMEBOL qualifying, one points above Uruguay immediately below them, but their success thus far is due to their strong home form.  La Tri have one win and two defeats from three away qualifiers, and have just two wins in their last 10 away games, while they also failed to win any of their games at the Copa America earlier this year.

A Uruguay win is my main tip for this fixture and a 1-0 win for the hosts is my correct score selection.  Uruguay may have put four past a poor Bolivia side, but prior to that had only scored more than one goal once in nine games.
