Can Valenciennes get an upset

It has not been the best of seasons for Valenciennes, with the club sitting dangerously close to the relegation zone during their eighth successive season in the French second tier.

They are conceding far too many goals, keeping just one clean sheet in their eight home fixtures, with seven of those games including three or more goals.

They are scoring plenty at Stade du Hainaut, where they have netted at least once in their last seven games, but their defensive struggles have resulted in them picking up just two victories on home soil.

Strasbourg surely too strong

Strasbourg’s French Cup record in recent years is not too bad, reaching the semi-finals and quarter-finals on one occasion each during the last four editions.

They will be hopefully of another strong run this season and have the perfect opportunity to get off to a good start against a struggling Ligue 2 side.

Julien Stéphan’s outfit have scored in seven of their eight away matches this season, while nine of their last 15 matches have included at least three goals.

I expect them to show their superiority in this one, and I also expect plenty of goals, especially due to Valenciennes’ defensive troubles. I am predicting there will be three or more goals in the match, with Strasbourg winning 3-1.
