Velez Sarsfield vs San Lorenzo Predictions

Tuesday’s Superliga Argentina action features an interesting looking clash between Velez Sarsfield and San Lorenzo. An evenly matched, exciting game is expected to be in order as both sides chase the 3 points.

After several uninspiring years, Velez are beginning to look a force once again under the watch of Gabriel Heinze and there’s hope of challenging for a continental place this season. Currently 9th after taking 17 points from 11 matches, El Fortin have made a strong start to the campaign and have provided viewers with plenty of entertainment with their aggressive, attacking style of play.

Last time out, said formula saw them play extremely well against a strong Defensa y Justicia side but fall on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline. Nonetheless, back on home soil and unbeaten there so far in 6 matches this season, 5 of which wins, confidence is high going into Sunday’s match and those taking to the field will be looking to return to winning ways.

Meanwhile, visitors San Lorenzo will be looking to put down a marker in what’s new boss Jorge Almiron’s first game in charge. El Ciclon have not looked a strong outfit in the action we’ve seen so far, evidenced by their current 22nd place standing but having pulled off something of a coup in attracting Almiron, there’s hopes that improvement is imminent.

Indeed, Almiron was a huge hit at Lanus, leading them to the league title and a Copa Libertadores final and if he can even match a fraction of said success at his new club, San Lorenzo fans will be delighted. Inheriting a side that has lost 3 of the last 4 league matches, the new manager clearly has a job on his hands but there’s little doubting there’s more ability in this San Lorenzo team than what’s currently being produced and Tuesday’s game ranks as a great opportunity to start a new era in a positive way.

Ultimately, as is usually the case when Velez and San Lorenzo meet, we’re expecting lots of action at both ends of the pitch and a high number of goals scored. Last season’s game between the two in Liniers ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw and with both expected to line up in an attacking manner on Sunday, another good watch looks to be on the cards.

With the last 3 meetings between the two having seen goals at both ends, backing both teams to score looks a great way to play and is exactly where our money is going. Velez’s attacking style and strong home form coupled with the visitors’ desire to impress their new manager should make it a pretty even affair overall and we think it could well end the same way as it did last season; a 2-2 draw.
