Verona vs Carpi Predictions

Verona’s form has improved in recent weeks, with home wins against Chievo and Atalanta giving them hope of survival, but they are still eight points away from safety with only nine games remaining. Verona need to start putting wins together if they are to pull off a great escape and the visit of Carpi is the perfect chance to get up and running. Luigi Delneri has named a much more attacking line-up of late, spearheaded by the veteran former Italy international Luca Toni, but his side have only scored one goal in their last three matches. At the age of 38, Toni is still Verona’s key man and he is their joint-top scorer in Serie A with five goals, two of which have come in their last five fixtures.

Carpi could climb out of the relegation places with a win at Verona this weekend, but a raft of injuries present coach Fabrizio Castori with a major team selection headache. A run of four games without defeat has nudged Carpi closer to survival, but they have not scored in their last three away games. A 2-1 home win against fellow battlers Frosinone last weekend tightened up the bottom of the table and Carpi will see a trip to rock bottom Verona as a mighty opportunity to get a vital three points on the board.

Verona will be effectively relegated if they lose this match, but Carpi come into the game in better form and it is tempting to side with the visitors. Their odds of 5/2 are large but another market provides a safer way to side with Castori’s men on Sunday. Carpi double chance at 7/10 with bet365 looks like a great bet given Verona have only won two of their last 31 Serie A matches. For a correct score tip, 16/1 on a 2-0 Carpi win looks like a massive price.
