Verona to Win

Reason for tip

Verona have won two of their last four Serie A games as they battle against relegation. They have won three of their last seven at home and could overcome a Genoa side that has lost two of their last four league games. Also, the home team has won nine of the last 15 meetings between the clubs with five draws.

Verona 1-0

Reason for tip

Verona have improved defensively of late, keeping three clean sheets in their last seven games. They have score only one goal in each of their last four, but one might be enough against a Genoa team beginning to flag. The Rossoblu have failed to score in two of their last four away games and could fall to a 1-0 defeat here.

Verona vs Genoa Predictions

  • Genoa have lost two of their last four league games
  • The home team has won nine of the last 15 meetings between the clubs with five draws

End of days for Gilardino’s squad at Genoa?

Verona can get the better of a Genoa team that looks increasingly likely to be dismantled in the summer when they entertain the Rossoblu on Sunday. Star turns Mateo Retegui and Albert Gudmundsson look likely to be playing elsewhere next season while Djed Spence has not convinced during his loan stint.

Alberto Gilardino has worked wonders during his two seasons in charge, bringing Geona back up from Serie B and landing them comfortably in mid-table this year, but his name is beginning to be circulated for a switch too.

It all feels a little ‘end of days’ at Stadio Luigi Ferraris right now and their results have dipped during the last month with only two points taken from the last four Serie A games.

Quirky stat points to away troubles

One of those was from a 0-0 draw at Juventus, which was probably viewed as a decent result. But Juve have won only one of their last nine Serie A games and also drew 2-2 with Verona during that run.

I Gialloblu can be hard to shake off at the Bentegodi, where they have won three of their last seven games and were not disgraced in a 3-1 loss to AC  Milan last time out.

A quirky stat that might have a bearing on Sunday’s games comes in the form of how many times the home team has won this matchup – nine of the last 15 in Serie A going the way of the hosts. Only one away side has won when these two have clashed since 2013 and it will be tough for Genoa to reverse that trend.
