Reason For Verona vs Torino Predictions

  • Torino have failed to win each of their last four matches against Verona.
  • Only Inter Milan and Napoli have conceded less home goals than Verona in Serie A this season.
  • Only three teams have scored less home goals than Verona during the current Serie A campaign.

Hosts tough nut to crack

A quick glance at the league table shows that Verona are plodding along in mid-table and to an extent that is what they’re doing, though that doesn’t mean that they’re soft touches.

Sunday’s hosts have lost each of their last two games, but they can be forgiven for losing against teams of Roma and Atalanta’s calibre, while the fact that they competed and put up a fight on both occasions is positive.

They’ve not been great on the road, losing four out of seven, but they’ve been tough to beat at home. Losing three out of eight may say something else, but their defeats have been narrow, losing by more than a single goal just once. Prior to their loss against Roma when last in action at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi, Verona had won three out of their last four at home, scoring five and conceding just two in the process.

Restricting teams is something that Verona have done well at home this term. Their defeat to Roma was the first time that they’d conceded more than one, while they’ve also kept three clean sheets. Only Lazio and Inter Milan have kept more home clean sheets than Verona in Serie A this term.

Visitors on the up?

Playing at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi isn’t going to be easy, though Torino will fancy themselves having won each of their last two matches, beating Fiorentina and Genoa.

Moreover, Sunday’s visitors have won each of their last two on their last two on the road, scoring five and conceding none in the process. However, while such numbers sound impressive, it’s important to note that Torino have faced Genoa and Brescia in their last two on the road. Both are in the bottom three, so we shouldn’t get to excited at such results. Prior to their away wins against struggling teams, Torino had lost four on the bounce away from home, scoring two and conceding a worrying total of nine in the process. Such form doesn’t exactly bode well ahead of Sunday’s game.

Verona easy side with

Verona were recently beaten at this venue but their form prior to that was encouraging. At the prices, the home win appeals. The fact that they’ve conceded very few goals in front of their own fans bodes well ahead of a match against a side that has struggled to score away goals against teams not in the bottom three. Torino’s form – lost four out of four on the road – prior to beating two weak sides doesn’t exactly point towards them doing well against an astute host. Furthermore, Verona have done a much better job of matching teams when it comes to shots on target, as they’ve registered as many as they’ve conceded at home. In contrast, Torino have an average shots on target supremacy of -2.14 on the road.

Going one way or the other may not be everyone’s cup of tea when the pair are split by just two points on the road, but Verona’s previous home efforts suggest that they really ought to be giving more respect in the betting, especially as Torino have been anything but great on the road.
