FK Viktoria Plzen to Win

Reason for tip

Viktoria Plzen have won all three of their home games this season and their final four of last season too. The Czech champions have won their last seven home European matches while Qarabag are yet to beat a team from Czechia in Uefa competitions.

FK Viktoria Plzen 2-1

Reason for tip

Qarabag had plenty of chances in the first leg, but found the visiting keeper too good on the night. With better finishing, and if they create chances again in the return game, there is a goal here for the Horsemen. Plzen have won their last two home games, including against Sheriff Tiraspol in the previous round, by 2-1 scorelines and that could well be the case again here.

FK Viktoria Plzen vs FK Qarabag Predictions

  • Viktoria Plzen have won all three of their home games this season and their final four of last season too.
  • Qarabag had plenty of chances in the first leg, but found the visiting keeper too good on the night.
  • Plzen have won their last seven home European matches.

Plzen have keeper to thank for first-leg platform

Viktoria Plzen returned from Azerbaijan unscathed last week and the 0-0 draw should set the Czech champions up to qualify following another 90 minutes of action on Tuesday. Qarabag were denied a first-leg victory in Baku by outstanding Plzen goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek, who made several important stops to repel the hosts’ eight total efforts on target.

The Czech Republic international could be a key figure again this week as Plzen’s record does not show too many clean sheets. Michal Bilek’s side have won their last two home games, including against Sheriff Tiraspol in the previous round, by 2-1 scorelines and that could well be the case again here.

Qarabag are reasonable travellers in European competition, avoiding defeat in nine of their last 11 Champions League away ties. The Horsemen scored in seven of those games and, after peppering the Plzen goal last week, should feel confident about creating enough opportunities to score at Doosan Arena.

Qarabag yet to beat Czech opposition

They also look likely to have captain Maksim Medvedev back in some capacity after he missed a month of action through injury.

But Viktoria have scored at least two goals in six of their last seven competitive home games and all of their pre-season games too. The hosts have won their last seven home European matches and should overpower the visitors, who have not beaten Czech opposition in seven previous attempts, by a score of 2-1.
