Villarreal vs Deportivo La Coruna Predictions

Villarreal have endured a difficult start to the new La Liga season with just two points to show from three games ahead of the visit of promoted Deportivo de A Coruna on Saturday.

In contrast, Deportivo have enjoyed a solid start after returning to Spain’s top flight following an eight-year absence, spending four of those seasons in the third tier. The Galician side drew their first two games 1-1 with Elche and Malaga but claimed a first win last time out by seeing off Valencia 3-1.

The Yellow Submarine are the odds-on favourites to win but offer little appeal at such a short price after two draws and a loss. One of those stalemates was a 2-2 draw at Atletico Madrid and that should be viewed as a positive result, but a 1-0 defeat at Alaves last time out is more concerning.

Both teams have scored in all three of Deportivo’s games so far and they have struck five times themselves. Veteran forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been key to Depor’s strong start as he has scored in every game so far and is the only member of their squad to strike this season, with their others being own goals, so he looks the standout pick for an anytime effort.

Villarreal have hit four goals across their three games and have a fantastic scoring record at home. This is their first game of the season at El Madrigal due to some renovation work over the summer and they scored at least twice in each of their final eight home assignments last season.

With home advantage, Villarreal should be able to end their winless start but Depor can keep things close and a 2-1 win for the home side has a chance in the correct score market. The visitors have shown they can compete at this level and haven’t conceded more than twice in any of their last 26 games, so they can keep things on the right side of respectable on Saturday.
