Manchester City vs Coventry Predictions
- There have been eight goals in Manchester City’s two Premier League matches this season
- Coventry scored 97 goals in the Championship last season
- Both teams have scored in eight of the last nine meetings between these teams
Coventry can shoot for the moon
Manchester City’s transfer dealings have made more headlines than their performances in the Premier League this season and manager Enzo Maresca has switched up his squad.
Enzo Fernandez, Elliot Anderson, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Iliman Ndiaye are the star arrivals, but there have been many departures too.
Savio, Tijjani Reijnders, Rodri, Nico Gonzalez, James Trafford, Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Bernardo Silva and Omar Marmoush have all left Manchester and it’s more than just individuals moving on – it’s the break-up of what was a brilliant team.
Of course, Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki remain at the club, but there look to be defensive issues.
Ruben Dias and Marc Guehi are good centre-backs, but they lack pace at the heart of the defence and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is not comfortable as a sweeper.
Matheus Nunes, Rico Lewis and Abdukodir Khusanov have pace in the full-back positions, but they are not good defenders and there isn’t too much protection in wide areas for Manchester City.
Clearly, the Citizens still have an extremely talented squad, but they conceded in games against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace and overall the balance doesn’t look quite right.
Maresca’s men needed two late goals from Guehi and Josko Gvardiol to beat Bournemouth 2-1 and Palace were in the midst of transfer chaos when losing 4-1 to City.
Coventry’s attempt to make the step up to Premier League has seen them lose 3-0 at Arsenal and fall 1-0 at home to Hull.
The loss to the Tigers is a concerning result for Coventry’s survival hopes, but Frank Lampard’s men were the better side in that contest and should have at least picked up a draw.
The Sky Blues have made a number of signings to compete in the top flight this term and they will hope to get forwards Sidiki Cherif and Taiwo Awoniyi firing.
Coventry have failed to score in their opening two Premier League matches, but one of their matches came against the champions Arsenal in north London and it’s unlikely there will be many opposition goals at the Emirates this season.
City conceded in games against West Ham and Burnley, who were both relegated to the Championship last season and their defence doesn’t appear to be any stronger than last term.
Coventry can be fancied to find the net at the Etihad and both teams can be backed to score.
