Vitesse vs Feyenoord Predictions

  • Seven of Vitesse’s last eight Eredivisie encounters produced over 2.5 total goals.
  • Feyenoord have not defeated Vitesse across the last six H2H encounters.
  • Both teams scored in seven of Feyenoord’s last nine away games.

A mouth-watering opening day clash in Arnhem

Although Vitesse were ultimately embarrassed by Feyenoord in the Europa Conference League play-off final at the end of last season, they did achieve a fifth-placed finish and will go again, starting with a home encounter against last season’s third-placed finishers Feyenoord.

While this is a tough encounter on paper, it is one that Vitesse often relish, they are unbeaten across the last six meetings with the Rotterdam giants (W3, D3) and having scored at least twice in three straight home games, they may well expect another positive result in spite of their outsider status.

After falling at the final hurdle in Europe last season, Feyenoord dust themselves down ahead of another huge campaign under Arne Slot. Their manager has lost each of his three personal clashes with Vitesse though, so the psychological edge could lie with the outsiders.

Going for goals

Feyenoord will field a new look side this season as the loss of last season’s top-scorer Luis Sinisterra has opened the door for a number of new signings. The likes of Oussama Idrissi, Quinten Timber and Danilo Pereira will be looking to hit the ground running but a mixed bag in pre-season raises some questions.

One thing that is often a theme in Feyenoord games is goals, five of their last six Eredivisie outings produced at least three in total while only two sides saw more goals on average in their away league games than Feyenoord’s 3.2.

Given the high-scoring trends seen amongst both sides and the potential risk factor of new players seeking headlines, we’re going for both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in this clash, with a smaller stakes selection on an entertaining 2-2 draw.
