Vitesse vs Rapid Vienna Predictions

  • Vitesse have not kept a clean sheet in their last six matches.
  • Vitesse are unbeaten in five of their last eight European home games.
  • Each of Rapid Vienna’s last five competitive games produced over 2.5 total goals.
  • Rapid Vienna conceded nine goals across their last four competitive away games.

Two suspect backlines should equal goals

Despite a rotten run of no wins across the last six competitive games (D1, L5), there is hope that Vitesse can produce a resurgent performance in this Conference League second leg to at least take the tie to extra time.

Vitesse won five of their last six home games when entered as the pre-match betting favourites and have produced a positive showing across their last eight European home games (W5, D1, L2). However, they have conceded eight goals across the last two home games, which could point to more of the same in this clash.

As for Rapid Vienna, they lost their opening two games of 2022 by a 2-1 scoreline before reversing that to win in the first-leg of this tie. However, all four of their games since the winter break have saw goals at both ends with over 2.5 goals in total, hinting that some of that rust may remain in the side.

Go for goals

Given that the hosts are going to have to throw the proverbial kitchen sink at this to remain in Europe and their porous defence, I think that there could be goals at both ends of the pitch but more importantly, over 2.5 in total as the Arnhemmers leave themselves wide open during their marauding attacks.

For smaller stakes, I predict a narrow 2-1 home win, one which would force this tie into extra time. Vitesse would make history in doing so, as they were eliminated from all of their prior UEFA ties when losing the first leg when it was played on foreign soil.
