Watford vs Aston Villa Predictions
Watford’s season effectively ended last weekend when Crystal Palace beat them 2-1 in the FA Cup semi final. It was a good game of football, but unfortunately for Watford they just couldn’t make it past that final hurdle before an FA Cup final.
This was what they have been looking forward to ever since their Premier League season started going downhill. They enjoyed an excellent first half to the season, but towards the end of 2015 their standards started slipping. Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo were no longer banging goals in week in, week out, and they were struggling for points.
Fortunately for them they had done enough at the start of the season to have a good cushion to fall back on, but they will be disappointed with their 41 point tally after such a good start to the campaign. They are all but safe from relegation though, so at least they don’t have to worry there.
Watford’s defeat at Wembley made it four losses, one draw, and one win from their last six matches in all competitions, but they will be hoping to grab another three points on Saturday. They are coming up against an Aston Villa side who have lost ten Premier League matches in a row and have a total of just 16 points this season.
Obviously this means they have already been relegated, but their much maligned squad of players will be at least hoping to regain some shrivels of pride before the season draws to a close.
Both of these teams have struggled for goals, Watford more recently and Aston Villa all season. Watford have netted just four goals in their last eight Premier League matches, while Aston Villa have only scored three in their last seven matches. Away from home it gets even worse for Aston Villa; they have only managed one goal in their last six trips away from Villa Park.
This has resulted in some low scoring matches. Four of Watford’s last five home matches in the league has seen fewer than three goals scored, with eight of Aston Villa last 11 away from home also being low on the goals count. This makes odds of 4/5 for Under 2.5 Goals incredibly good value for money, and I’m backing that along with a 1-0 Watford win at 11/2.
