Wellington Phoenix vs Western Sydney Wanderers Predictions

• Wellington have not lost a home game since April
• Western Sydney have scored in five of their last six games
• Both teams scored in each of last season’s three meetings between the two sides

Strong Start For Phoenix

Wellington had a terrific finish to the 2020/21 campaign, and they have started the current season in a similar vein, picking up four points in two games in the process.

Both teams have scored in those matches, a 2-1 victory over Central Coast Mariners and 1-1 draw with Macarthur, meaning they are unbeaten in thirteen games, whilst they have netted in 12 of their last 14 outings.

Ufuk Talay’s side have the required firepower to keep that strong run in front of goal going, and in fact have only failed to score in one of their last eight home matches against Western Sydney.

Western Unbeaten, But Not Winning

Western Sydney have recorded consecutive draws at the start of the new season, but they too are on a good run, unbeaten in five matches since May.

Carl Robinson’s side are equally as strong in front of goal as Wellington, having netted in 17 of their 19 fixtures since the start of March, although one of those games was a 0-0 draw with Sydney nearly two weeks ago.

Both of these teams possess plenty of goalscoring prowess, so I expect both teams will score in this one, but given their strong start to the season, Wellington may come out on top, so I am predicting a narrow 2-1 win for the hosts.
