Werder Bremen vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions

Eintracht Frankfurt come into this match off the back of three consecutive Bundesliga wins against Mainz 05, Darmstadt 98, and last Saturday’s impressive 1-0 win at home to Borussia Dortmund. Frankfurt have found form at the perfect time and kept themselves afloat and in an advantageous position in the survival fight. Frankfurt currently stand one point above Werder Bremen and the relegation play-off spot, and three points (and better goal difference) above the automatic relegation position and second-from-bottom VfB Stuttgart. Eintracht Frankfurt have set themselves up perfectly for the final match of the 2015/2016 Bundesliga campaign in this relegation “six pointer” against Werder Bremen, needing only a point from this match to ensure themselves another season in the top flight.

After the elation of their 6-2 win at home to fellow Bundesliga veterans and relegation strugglers VfB Stuttgart, Werder Bremen will be disappointed to have played out a 0-0 draw last Saturday against an FC Koln side whose mid-table finish was already confirmed. Werder Bremen stand disadvantaged, in the relegation play-off spot and one point behind Eintracht Frankfurt. Bremen have never experienced a final day in the Bundesliga where survival lay on the result of one match – they have only been relegated once before in the 1979/1980 season where automatic relegation was confirmed before the last day. Bremen have to win to survive automatically, a draw would likely ensure they play-off against the third place finisher from the second league and a defeat against Frankfurt could see them automatically relegated if VfB Stuttgart win their match against Wolfsburg.

Eintracht Frankfurt seem to have finally ended their problematic “goal drought” and found form at a crucial time. Frankfurt have won their last three consecutive matches over a series of difficult fixtures and have scored five goals over the same period (an average of 1.6 goals per game) – maybe Frankfurt have found the winning solution to the absence of veteran striker Alex Meier, who remains their top scorer with 12 goals despite missing the past ten matches. Werder Bremen aren’t in bad form either, taking four points from their last three matches (W1 D1 L1) and have scored 7 goals over the same period (an average of 2.3 goals per game). Werder Bremen are, however, the team “under pressure” as Frankfurt require only 1 point to ensure their survival. Eintracht Frankfurt also have a stellar record against Werder Bremen in the top flight in recent years, winning six, drawing four and losing only once over their last eleven meetings. Bremen have been shaky and inconsistent throughout the entire 2015/2016 Bundesliga campaign – they only managed their first clean sheet of the season last weekend – and combining the above analysis with the statistics below, we expect that Frankfurt double chance at 4/5 to be a safe bet given their recent form. Eintracht Frankfurt to win 2-1 at 11/1, their most common win result on the road, also seems a top value bet.
