Out-of-sorts pair clash at the Weserstadion
Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt could both do with a boost when they meet in Friday’s Bundesliga fixture.
Bremen are on a six-game run without a win, losing four of those fixtures, while Frankfurt have won just one of their last seven across all competitions.
The visitors are still in touch with the European spots, however, and this trip to the Weserstadion looks like a good opportunity to return to winning ways.
Frankfurt performed well in a 3-2 defeat at a decent Stuttgart side last time out and prior to that they held Dortmund to a 3-3 draw.
Bremen have also faced those two sides in their last three fixtures as they were trounced 4-0 by VfB at this venue and lost 3-0 at Dortmund. They’ve also played out a goalles draw with strugglers Augsburg during that run, meaning they have gone three games without scoring.
Die Adler have at least been getting on the scoresheet as they’ve scored in five successive games and that extra bit of quality in attack could prove the difference against goal-shy Bremen.
A 2-0 away win is the pick in the correct score market due to Bremen’s issues in front of goal and Frankfurt’s strike rate. The visitors have scored five goals across their last two games and score on average just over two goals per-game.
Frankfurt do have a few injury concerns in attack as Jonathan Burkardt has missed the last seven games and new recruit Younes Ebnoutalib sustained an injury against Stuttgart, after making a goalscoring debut against BVB. That opens the door for other scoring options and Ansgar Knauff looks a contender.
Knauff has a modest five goals in 24 games across all competitions this season but has increased his shooting output across his last four games. Knauff has had 11 shots in total in that period – an average of 2.25 attempts per-game, which is significantly higher than his average of 1.4 per-game for the season.
